Job Overview:

This Data Engineering Manager role is part of the Activation Data Engineering team at Coursera—a team dedicated to shaping and harnessing our core data assets to address specific business use cases across the organization. By tailoring, enriching, and maintaining activation data assets, we enable high-quality, discoverable insights that drive decision-making in finance, marketing, product, and other functions. Serving all three business segments (Consumer, Enterprise, and Degrees), our team plays a critical role as the link between broad-based foundational data and the applied insights needed by our stakeholders.

We are seeking a Data Engineering Manager based in India to build and lead a high-performing team of data engineers, with a primary focus on supporting the data needs of the Enterprise and Degrees segments. In this role, you will manage cross-functional projects and collaborate with diverse  stakeholders. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our activation data assets are tailored, enriched, and delivered with the quality and ease of use necessary to support key business priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of data engineers in India, fostering an innovative and collaborative culture
  • Define the technical and strategic roadmap for activation data solutions, overseeing planning, prioritization, and alignment with overall business goals
  • Drive the delivery of activation data solutions by tailoring, enriching, and maintaining data assets to address specific business use cases
  • Serve as a primary liaison for enterprise and degrees business segments, managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring that projects align with strategic goals
  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data product development, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including global stakeholders, to define technical strategies and deliver scalable data solutions
  • Establish and maintain operational processes and metrics to monitor data quality, timeliness, and overall project success.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in data engineering roles, including at least 2+ years managing teams
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) as demonstrated by project or work history
  • Documented history of collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data solutions that support business decision-making

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s or MBA) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with Databricks, DBT, Spark, Airflow
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non- technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience working with or managing fully remote or distributed teams using modern collaboration and project management practices
  • Experience in data engineering roles within a global or multi-regional organization, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders and teams across different time zones
