Job Overview:

Coursera is bootstrapping a new development center, with a focus on building a platform team in India. This is an unique opportunity to be part of the founding team that would not only own a mission critical charter, but also play a significant role in shaping the culture for the location. We are looking for individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset who are excited by the prospect of building impactful 0 to 1 products.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the group’s domain and overall architecture, provide guidance on the evolution of the architecture over a 1 year horizon.
  • Identify gaps in either product strategy and technical roadmaps and drive prioritisation for these.
  • Influencing the charter of multiple teams and influencing on key projects within the group. Lead and deliver projects that span multiple pods by leveraging technical expertise and/or organization effectiveness.
  • Informing business strategy by helping product, data, engineering leadership understand the impediments and capabilities of existing systems. Find opportunities for high leverage in key projects and influence group peers on roadmap prioritisation
  • Influence engineering culture at group-level on balancing execution risks and expectation of quality. Responsible for managing proof of concepts and subsequent follow ups at the group level.
  • Provide guidance to the engineering organization through defining new architectural tenets.
  • Mentoring and offering technical guidance to tech leads, leading to a shared technical vision.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience working in a relevant backend software engineering role
  • Proven track record of conceptualising and delivering on a long term technical strategy for broad business domains
  • Proficient in designing robust, scalable and extensible enterprise systems
  • Experience in identifying technical fragility in large and complex systems, and effectively leading organizational changes to plug these gaps
  • Experienced in working with cross functional peers across product, design, architecture and business to influence the technical direction of the org
  • Fervent belief in engineering quality and building technical leverage for others
  • Track record of mentoring and growing team members and setting strong engineering culture on the team

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proven track record of influencing with or without having a formal authority and effective roadmap advocacy
  • Experience working with technical and non-technical teams to deliver significant business impact 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and navigate through ambiguity and uncertainty with confidence.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products or services.
